Mr. McDonough is a member of the Virginia Bar Association, the District of Columbia Bar Association, the Alexandria Bar Association, Association of Defense Trial Attorneys, Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys and the Alexandria Rotary Club.
Mr. McDonough provides general counsel consultation to a variety of business clients on commercial transactions, asset and stock purchases, leases, intellectual property licenses, employment practices, and corporate governance. In addition, Mr. McDonough advises clients as to formation as a corporation, limited liability company or business trust. Industries have included software development, real estate ventures, transportation, restaurants, spas and salons, political consulting, interior design and video production.
Mr. McDonough also utilizes over 20 years of trial experience in litigating disputes that arise in the commercial context as well as legal malpractice defense, engineering malpractice, real estate litigation, medical malpractice, premises liability, employment claims, civil rights and bankruptcy. He has handled litigation in more than 20 Circuit Courts throughout Virginia and the District of Columbia, and federal courts in Virginia, the District of Columbia and Maryland. This includes briefing and arguing appeals to the Supreme Court of Virginia, the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.
In addition to successfully taking cases through trial and subsequent appeal, Mr. McDonough has represented clients in administrative hearings including matters before the EEOC, MSPB, EPA, and the Virginia Department of Labor and Employee Relations. Over the years, he has represented lawyers, engineers, surveyors, real estate professionals, nurses, operating room technicians, psychologists, title companies and escrow agents. He has also participated in more than 40 court-ordered and private mediations.
